News release from the Mad Ants:

Fort Wayne Phoenix Futsal to Play Prior to Mad Ants Game

(February 24, 2016) – The Mad Ants are excited to welcome the Fort Wayne Phoenix Futsal Club to Allen Co. War Memorial Coliseum for their exhibition game against the Grand Rapids ABK Futsal Club at 12:00 pm on Sunday March 20th. The Mad Ants will follow the Futsal match with their own game against the Grand Rapids Drive at 5:00 p.m. at the Coliseum.

“We view Fort Wayne Phoenix Futsal as an emerging sports property here in Northeast Indiana and are thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with them for their game on March 20th,” said Garrett Martz, Fort Wayne Mad Ants Vice President of Sales.

Futsal is a modified version of soccer developed in South America in the 1930s that is played on a hard indoor court surface with a field smaller than a typical soccer field. Other modifications include the number of players, the size of the goal and the size and composition of the ball; this creating an emphasis on improvisation, creativity and technique as well as ball control in small spaces. Futsal is becoming America’s fastest growing indoor sport and is exceptionally popular in Spain, Mexico and South America.

“Fort Wayne Futsal and the Phoenix Futsal Club are excited about working with the Mad Ants organization and further expanding Futsal to our community,” said Carlos Cruz, founder of Fort Wayne Futsal.

Tickets to the Sunday, March 20th futsal game will be sold in advance for $10, but will also be available at the door for $14. These tickets will include entry into the Mad Ants game with the Grand Rapids Drive at 5:00 p.m.
