An Infographic from the National Weather Service:

What are Light Pillars?

(January 19, 2016) – Formed by light reflecting off hexagonal plate-like ice crystals in the earths air. These crystals drift through the atmosphere with a horizontal orientation, gently rocking from side to side as they fall.

Did you see the light pillars earlier this week? Thanks to Alex Gorsuch for the photo, taken in Goshen, IN.
