News release from the City of Fort Wayne:

Annual Lowering of Rivers Begins Monday

(November 13, 2015) – City Utilities crews will open the Tainter gate at the Hosey Dam on Monday, November 16. The process allows river levels, mostly in the downtown area, to decrease to the normal winter pool.

The river levels will remain at the lower level through mid-April of next year. At that time the gate will close and the river levels will rise to normal summer pool levels.

The Tainter gate is a radial arm floodgate used to control water flow.
