Michelle Chambers and Mayor Tom Henry

The Allen County Democratic Party held a caucus this afternoon to select a new Fort Wayne City Clerk. The entire caucus took just over 17 minutes.

Five candidates were announced last Friday: Michelle Chambers, Cathy Cross, John Roberson, David Sowers and Karen Walker. Shortly after the announcement, Karen Walker withdrew.

At today’s caucus, John Roberson and David Sowers did not attend. Only Michelle Chambers and Cathy Cross appeared. Each were allowed to address the Precinct Committee-persons for two minutes.

Voting in the caucus was restricted to the elected ACDP Precinct Committee-persons. The votes were cast and counted by Austin Carpenter, Andy Downs, and Matt Henry with Terry Anderson observing on behalf of Cross and Lloyd Osbourne on behalf of Chambers.. During the couting, John Court made some announcements. One of those was that it was Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry’s birthday. Allen County Councilwoman Sharon Tucker led the group in singing happy birthday to Mayor Henry.

The votes were counted and Party Chairman John Court announced that the winner was Michelle Chambers.

After the caucus, City Clerk-elect Michelle Chambers spoke with the media.

Chambers will hold the office for 52 days until December 31, 2015. She replaces Angie Davis, who replaced Sandy Kennedy upon her resignation in October. Fort Wayne City Clerk-elect Republican Lana Keesling takes over the office on January 1, 2016.
