Spooky Experiments Light Up Halloween Science Shows on October 23-24

(October 19, 2015) – The Society of Physics Students at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) will host its first Spooky Halloween Demo Shows on Friday October 23 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday October 24 at 3:00 p.m. Both shows take place in Kettler Hall room 133.

Admission is free. Members of the community are invited to attend. The event is family-friendly. All ages are welcome. There may be some loud noises and flashes of light during some experiments.

Undergraduate and graduate physics students will show the community “frightening displays of physics to blow their minds,” according to Mark Masters, department chair and professor of physics.

“It really is a lot of fun exploring different physical phenomenon and learning about how the universe works,” said Masters.

The session includes both hands-on activities and a demonstration show. Attendees will have the opportunity to lie on a bed of nails, play with a Van der Graaf static electricity generator, explore sound and light, and build smoke ring generators.

The demonstration show will feature larger, more complex experiments, including the Tesla Coil, ping pong ball cannon, nose cruncher, giant gyroscopes, and more.
