Ivy Tech Northeast partners with area organizations to host Second Chance expungement presentation

WHAT: Second Chance Expungement Program: Fort Wayne area defense attorneys will present about Indiana’s Second Chance Law and how it can improve the lives of those looking for jobs and safe housing. The Second Chance Law is a 2013 Indiana law that expunges specified misdemeanor and felony convictions from being accessed by possible employers and landlords.

WHEN: 6 p.m. Oct. 21

DETAILS: A criminal history record limits opportunity in housing, education, credit, and career. The program aims to help community members with criminal offenses gain access to employment, housing, and education. According to the Veterans Administration, a criminal history record is the chief cause of veteran homelessness. According to the, one in 4 Americans has a criminal history record. The National Employment Law Project reports that more than 90 percent of companies reported using criminal background checks for their hiring decisions.

The Second Chance Expungement Program presentation is in conjunction with Volunteer Center, Indiana Legal Services, Inc., Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic, and Volunteer Lawyer Program.
