Critical Shooting Investigation, 1501 Wells Street
Time: 2:22 a.m.
Location: 1501 Wells Street
Vitim: Adult Male, Critical Condition
On Sunday, October 11, 2015, at 2:22am, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to 1501 Wells Street on a report of a shooting. Officers arrived and learned that an adult male was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, and that he was being taken by private vehicle to a local hospital. Officers caught up to the victim at the hospital, where he was first said to be in serious condition. He was later downgraded to critical condition by hospital doctors.
Initial information indicates an argument took place in the parking lot of 1501 Wells Street between the victim and another male, which led to gunshots being fired and the victim being struck.
Detective were able to quickly develop suspect information, because of very cooperative witnesses who provided information. This led to a person of interest being taken into custody just before 4:00am.
Detectives are currently piecing all of the information together, trying to figure out what led to the disturbance and the shots being fired. They are exploring any relationship between the victim and the person of interest, and hope to have more information once they are able to interview the victim. Crime Scene Technicians are processing the scene and collecting evidence, including any surveillance footage from nearby businesses.
Upon the completion of the interviews with the witnesses, victim, and person of interest, detectives will confer with the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office before deciding whether any charges will be filed or not. This information will be released when it becomes available.
