USF students to witness Pope Francis visit
A group of University of Saint Francis students, faculty and staff will travel to Philadelphia for Pope Francis’ public Mass on September 27.

(September 8, 2015) — Pope Francis is making his first trip to the United States in September, and a group of students, faculty and staff from the University of Saint Francis will have the chance to experience part of the visit as they depart for Philadelphia on September 26 from the USF campus.

On September 27, the Pope will be in Philadelphia for the World Meeting of Families and during this stop, he will offer a public Mass on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, which the USF contingent will be attending. Newmann University, a sister Franciscan university in Philadelphia, is hosting the group during their visit.

“We are so blessed to have the opportunity to witness this historic event,” said Sister M. Elise Kriss, OSF, president of the University of Saint Francis, “and I am so thrilled for these students who will be part of not just an important Catholic event, but truly an important moment in the history of this country. As the University of Saint Francis, we have been watching Pope Francis and the wonderful way he has embodied the Franciscan values that we hold so dear. This is going to be a very enjoyable trip, but also a very meaningful one for all of us.”

The University of Saint Francis travelers will depart from the campus at 6 a.m. on September 26 and the public are invited to help send them off in style as they embark on this special journey.
