INDOT: Labor Day weekend travel planner

News release from INDOT:

Labor Day Weekend Travel Planner
INDOT removing as many restrictions as possible for holiday travelers

(September 3, 2015) – 35.5 million Americans are expected to hit the road over the holiday, as AAA Travel predicts the highest travel volume for the Labor Day weekend since 2008. The Indiana Department of Transportation reminds holiday travelers to plan ahead for heavy traffic on the state’s highways and interstates.

INDOT will suspend all possible road restrictions from 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, through 8 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8. Restrictions will remain on some larger scale projects where they cannot be safely removed. Work zone speed limits will remain in these areas for the safety of drivers. All bridge closures will remain in effect.

To assist with travel planning, the following traffic patterns/restrictions will remain in place for the holiday weekend:

  • I-469 near Fort Wayne is reduced to one lane in each direction from S.R. 1 (Exit 6) to Tillman Road (Exit 15).
  • I-69 near Auburn has shifting traffic lanes in both directions between Exit 326 and S.R. 8 (Exit 329).
  • U.S. 24 in Fort Wayne, between Amber and Homestead Roads, is restricted to one lane in each direction.
  • U.S. 33 in the Town of Benton is closed for bridge reconstruction.
