News release from the Fort Wayne Police Department:
Fatal Shooting Investigation, 2500 Schaper Drive
Date: 8/29/2015
Time: 11:58 p.m.
Location: 2500 block of Schaper Drive
Victim: Juvenile Female, Deceased
Details:
On Saturday, 08/29/2015, at approximately 11:58 p.m., the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 2500 Block of Schaper Dr. on a report of a shooting. Officers arrived and located a juvenile female down in the street, appearing to be in critical condition. Officers immediately began CPR on the female until medics arrived, who transported the victim to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.
The initial investigation has revealed that a gathering was taking place at a home in the area. At some point during the gathering, two rival groups began shooting each other in the street near the gathering. As the shooting was taking place, the victim, as well as everyone else, ran to take cover, and the victim was struck by a bullet. No other injuries were reported, but several vehicles were struck by gun fire. There were several shell casings recovered in the street. Multiple suspects were seen getting into and fleeing the scene in an older blue Dodge Durango.
At this time it is unclear what led to the shooting, what the relationship is between the two groups, or if any of the shooters knew anyone at the gathering. It is also currently unknown how many people were actually shooting, or if gang activity played any role. Finally, it is unknown what relationship, if any, the victim has to the people at the gathering or shooters. This is all currently being investigated.
Crime Scene Technicians are currently processing the scene and collecting evidence. Detectives are speaking with witnesses and neighbors. No arrests have been made and there are no suspects at this time, nor were any weapons found. This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Coroner’s Office, and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Anyone with information is asked to call the Fort Wayne Police Department at (260) 427-1222 or Crime Stoppers at (260) 436-7867.
The victim’s identify, as well as the cause and manner of death will be released by the Coroner’s Office.
Nothing further at this time.
