Game recap from the TinCaps:
Rain-shortened game and Captains sink TinCaps
In a rain-shortened game, the TinCaps lost to the Lake County Captains, 5-4, at Parkview Field on Saturday night. The game was called following a 42-minute delay after 6 1/2 (offically, 6) innings.
Despite the loss, Fort Wayne remains four games in front of West Michigan for first place in the Eastern Division with nine games to go in the regular season. The TinCaps’ magic number to clinch a playoff spot for a seventh year in a row is still one.
Even with the wet weather, a crowd of 7,854 came Downtown, making it Parkview Field’s 23rd sell-out of the year.
Lake County (31-30, 67-62) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning against starter Dinelson Lamet (L, 5-7). The Captains extended their advantage to 3-0 in the third.
Fort Wayne (40-21, 72-57) answered back in the bottom of the third as the third baseman Luis Tejada belted his third home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field that made it 3-2.
The two sides traded a run in both the fifth and sixth, respectively.
For the TinCaps, right fielder Franmil Reyes provided an RBI single with the bases loaded in the fifth for his 53rd RBI this year. In the sixth, second baseman Luis Urias added an opposite-field run-scoring single.
Nick Pasquale (W, 4-2) was given credit for the victory out of Lake County’s bullpen. He allowed a run in 1 2/3 innings on the heels of starter Casey Shane, who went the first 4 1/3.
The TinCaps travel to Lansing on Sunday to begin a three-game series with the Lugnuts at 4:05. Fort Wayne is set to start right-hander Ernesto Montas (11-6, 3.40) against Justin Shafer (5-4, 2.95). The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380, Box Score, and the TuneIn Radio app, with coverage commencing at 3:45
