TinCaps win 14th consecutive home game
(August 24, 2015) – The TinCaps won their 14th consecutive game at Parkview Field on Monday night, 3-2, over the Lansing Lugnuts. Fort Wayne is one victory away from tying a franchise record for most home wins in a row.
The franchise record for consecutive home wins is 15 and was set June 6-July 15, 2009.The first-place TinCaps are 21-4 over their last 25 games and lead the Eastern Division second half standings by four games over second-place West Michigan. Fort Wayne is eight games in front of third-place South Bend. There are 14 games left in the regular season. The top two teams go on to the playoffs.
The home side took a 2-0 lead through the first three innings against Lugs starter Sean Reid-Foley (L, 3-5), who lasted four frames. First baseman Trae Santos put Fort Wayne up 1-0 with an RBI single in the second to score Michael Gettys, who walked, stole second, and advanced to third base on a throwing error by Lansing catcher Danny Jansen. Santos leads the club with 54 RBIs.
Right fielder Franmil Reyes hit a two-out triple off the wall in right field in the fourth. Left fielder Franchy Cordero followed with a single that made it 2-0.
Lansing (26-29, 68-57), which won the first half division title, got a run back in the top of the fourth. However, the TinCaps answered with another of their own in the fifth to once again lead by a pair, 3-1. Second baseman Josh VanMeter hit his second single of the night, and came across after advancing on a pair of wild pitches sandwiched around a groundout that moved him from second to third.
Griffin Russell (W, 1-0), a left-handed reliever making his Parkview Field debut, tossed three innings of one-run ball. Starter Dinelson Lamet worked two no-hit innings before being lifted in a measure to limit his workload for the season, his first full year as a professional.
After three perfect innings from Aaron Cressley, Colby Blueberg (S, 19) allowed a run in the ninth but still added to his division-leading save total.
The TinCaps can tie the franchise record for consecutive wins on Tuesday night against the Lugnuts at 7:05. Right-hander Ernesto Montas (10-6, 3.50) is set to start for Fort Wayne against righty Justin Shafer (5-3, 3.02).
