The institute is a national professional development activity, sponsored by the Presidents’ Round Table of African-American CEOs of Community Colleges. Based in Pennsylvania, it assists participants in their executive management pursuits.

Cathcart will attend the October event in Atlanta, where he will participate in interactive, week-long workshops covering topics including building a culture of commitment, leadership and diversity, leading in stressful times, and fundraising.

As part of the application process, Cathcart submitted letters of recommendation. Ivy Tech Northeast’s chancellor, Jerrilee K. Mosier, wrote, “I can count on Chris to bring those issues to the table that are pertinent to the well-being and success of the region. He works well as a member of the overall team, even at times when it is not easy to do so. He is thoughtful in his review of issues and looks at all sides.”

Cathcart serves on the statewide Ivy Tech Diversity Committee and several other key initiative task forces. Regionally, he is active in the College’s African American Male Initiative. Locally, he serves on boards for Wunderkammer Company, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana, and Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne.

“It is an honor to be chosen for this prestigious and very selective organization. It is an opportunity to learn from some of the best community college leaders in the country,” Cathcart says. “I hope that participating will let me share some of the great things we’re doing at Ivy Tech Northeast and to connect with other senior administrators who can share best practices and success stories that will benefit us as we strive to support the needs of northeast Indiana.”
