Fort Wayne Drops Road Trip Finale
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (July 26, 2015) – The TinCaps fell to the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 3-2, on a 90-degree Sunday afternoon at Bowling Green Ballpark. Hot Rods first baseman Alec Sole hit a walk-off home run to begin the bottom of the ninth.
Fort Wayne (16-15, 48-51) saw a 2-1 lead slip away in the finale of the team’s nine-game road trip. Shortstop Ruddy Giron singled to score left fielder Franchy Cordero in the top sixth inning to put the TinCaps in front, but the lead didn’t last long. Bowling Green scored a two-out, unearned run in the bottom of the sixth to tie it.
Earlier, in the second, Fort Wayne third baseman Luis Tejada had tied the game, 1-1, with a single to plate designated hitter Henry Charles, who had doubled. The TinCaps hit four doubles on the day, with Cordero providing a pair. The Hot Rods scored a run in the first, stringing together three consecutive two-out hits.
Bowling Green (16-15, 53-48) reliever Brian Miller (W, 3-2) pitched a perfect ninth inning. For Fort Wayne, Aaron Cressley (L, 1-2) came in for the ninth after Nick Monroe pitched two scoreless frames. Dinelson Lamet went the first five innings for the visitors, while lefty Kyle McGrath worked the sixth.
The TinCaps were 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position.
Sole’s homer was the first of the left-handed batter’s professional career, in his 331st at-bat.
The TinCaps are off Monday and then back at Parkview Field for the first time in 10 days on Tuesday to host the Dayton Dragons (Reds) at 7:05. Michael Kelly (5-3, 4.45) is scheduled to start against Dayton’s Wyatt Strahan (6-7, 2.74).
