Game recap from the TinCaps:
Game over for Fort Wayne on Super Mario Bros. Night
MUSHROOM KINGDOM (July 16, 2015) – Super Mario Bros. Night was a smashing success for the TinCaps for eight innings on Thursday night at Parkview Field. But then, as if Fort Wayne drove over a banana peel on Luigi Raceway, the game slipped away from the TinCaps in a 9-3, 10-inning loss to the Lake County Captains.
Fort Wayne (13-8, 45-44) led 3-0 entering the ninth inning before Lake County rallied to tie it up. The Captains then erupted for six runs in the 10th.
Third baseman Luis Tejada homered in the bottom of the second inning to put the TinCaps up 1-0. That lead carried for a while thanks to the pitching of starter Dinelson Lamet, who threw five scoreless innings and struck out seven. Kyle McGrath followed with two frames of no-run ball and Taylor Cox blanked the Captains in the eighth.
Meanwhile, the TinCaps tacked on two more runs in the sixth to go up 3-0, as Tejada provided an RBI groundout and designated hitter Edwin Moreno hit an RBI double.
Lake County (7-13, 43-45) was held without an earned run over the first 17 innings of the series before the late outburst. David Speer (W, 3-4) worked a scoreless ninth for the win, while Yimmi Brasoban (L, 2-3) was charged with four earned runs.
With the series tied, 1-1, the rubber match of the three-game set is scheduled for Friday night at 7:05. Fort Wayne is in line to start right-hander Michael Kelly (4-2, 4.44) against lefty Thomas Pannone (4-3, 3.67). The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380, Box Score, and the TuneIn Radio app, and seen on Comcast Network 81.
