News release from the Fort Wayne Philharmonic:
The Phil to Perform Second Annual Patriotic Pops at Parkview Field
(June 8, 2015) – A new musical celebratory tradition has started in Northeast Indiana. Friends and families from across the region will gather together to celebrate the American spirit with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic in the most American of places, a baseball field. The second annual Fort Wayne Philharmonic Patriotic Pops at Parkview Field will take place on July 3, 2015. This performance is scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. with fireworks accompanying the finale. Gates will be open starting at 5 p.m. This is a free event to the public.
The concert will feature well-known patriotic tunes such as Yankee Doodle Dandy, American Salute, Battle Hymn of the Republic and many more. The final pieces of the concert, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, Sousa’s Washington Post March and Stars and Stripes Forever will be accompanied by fireworks.
One of the most significant moments of the concert will occur when The Phil pays tribute to those who have served our country. During a piece titled Armed Forces Salute, veterans will be asked to stand when their service branch theme is played.
This will mark the first time Assistant Conductor Chia-Hsuan Lin will be conducting this performance.
“This is my first time leading the Philharmonic in celebrating this meaningful holiday with our community. I feel honored and humbled by the history we will celebrate together at Parkview Field. I look forward to sharing the bond and the connection we have, and GO TINCAPS,” Lin said.
Last year, the stadium was filled with spectators with an estimated attendance of over 6200.
This concert will conclude The Phil’s 71st season.
Admission to the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Patriotic Pops at Parkview Field is free to the public.
