Allen County FamilyWize Program Reaches $2 Million Savings Milestone
Consumers average 33% savings with free prescription drug discount card

(June 17, 2015) — It took about five and a-half years for Allen County’s FamilyWize program to save residents $1 million on their prescription drug costs. It’s taken less than half that time for the program to reach its second million.

The Allen County Board of Commissioners and United Way of Allen County officials announced achievement of the milestone during a news conference today.

According to statistics provided by FamilyWize, residents have used the free card more than 110,000 times to save $2,003,507 on their prescription drugs from the program’s introduction in Allen County in 2007 through last month. The card is credited with saving consumers an average of 33 percent off their retail prescription drug costs.

The United Way of Allen County began offering the program to residents through its partner agencies in March of 2007. In April 2008, the Board of Commissioners teamed up with United Way to help publicize the program and distribute cards throughout the community.

“This accomplishment demonstrates the positive impact that the FamilyWize program has had on our community and the families that use the card,” said Commissioner Nelson Peters.

“The FamilyWize program demonstrates what we can do for our community when we work together,” said United Way of Allen County President and CEO, David Nicole. “Through collaborative efforts, we are able to make Allen County a better place for everyone.”

The FamilyWize Prescription Savings Card, which is accepted at most major pharmacies, covers all prescription medications. The card is free to all consumers – both insured and uninsured. The card functions like a reusable prescription discount coupon, does not require any personal information from the user, and has no eligibility criteria.

FamilyWize cards are available locally at any of the Associated Churches of Fort Wayne and Allen County’s 28 food bank locations, at various United Way partner agencies, or by contacting United Way of Allen County or the Board of Commissioners’ office. You can also print a card from FamilyWize.org or download the free FamilyWize app.

FamilyWize also has a Drug Price Lookup Tool, an online resource to compare prescription medication prices and find local pharmacies with the lowest price. Consumers can access the easy-to-use tool on FamilyWize.org or through the FamilyWize app.
