NWS Update: Flood Warnings until June 22, 4:00 PM

Updates on Flood Warnings issued by the National Weather Service:

FLOOD WARNING
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NORTHERN INDIANA
1154 PM EDT WED JUN 17 2015

…Flooding severity forecast to increase for the following rivers in Indiana…Ohio

  • Little River above Huntington affecting Allen…Huntington and Wabash Counties
  • Eel River at North Manchester affecting Cass…Kosciusko…Miami…Wabash and Whitley Counties
  • Auglaize River near Defiance Power Plant affecting Defiance County
  • Saint Marys River at Muldoon Bridge affecting Allen County

Additional showers and thunderstorms through Thursday afternoon combined with runoff from recent heavy rainfall will continue to result in rises on area rivers and sterams.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Safety message…Never drive vehicles through flooded areas. the water may be too deep to allow safe passage. Never allow children to play in or near flood waters. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or local media for further statements and updated forecasts.

…Forecast flooding increased from Moderate to Major severity…

The Flood Warning continues for The Saint Marys River at Muldoon Bridge

* until Monday afternoon.
* At 11 PM Wednesday the stage was 19.1 feet and rising.
* Major flooding is occurring and Major flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 14.0 feet.
* Forecast…The river will rise to crest near 19.3 feet around 8 PM Friday June 19 and fall below flood stage around 4 PM Sunday June 21.
* At 19.0 feet…Flooding reaching major category with extensive evacuations becoming necessary. Primary roads and bridges are closed at this level.
* This crest compares to a previous crest of 19.1 feet which occurred on Jan 14 2005.

The Flood Warning has been extended for The Maumee River AT Ft. Wayne

* until Monday afternoon.
* At 11 PM Wednesday the stage was 19.7 feet and rising.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 17.0 feet.
* Forecast…The river will rise to a crest near 19.9 feet around 2 PM Friday June 19 and fall below flood stage around 12 PM Sunday June 21.
* At 20.0 feet…Some evacuations may be necessary in low, unprotected areas of River Haven.
* This crest compares to a previous crest of 19.7 feet which occurred on May 22 2010.
