Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne kick off summer meals program with festivities at 5 Fort Wayne locations
Over 24,000 meals to be distributed to children under 18 this summer(June 10, 2015) – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne will be providing free meals to children under 18 years of age this summer at 5 locations in Fort Wayne from June 9, 2015 through August 9, 2015.
The summer feeding program will kick off with a week of festivities, with special events taking place during lunch hour at each meal distribution site:
- Monday June 15, 2015, 12:30 – 1:30 at the Fairfield Club (2609 Fairfield Avenue). Kick-off activities include games, face painting and live entertainment by young Club members. Open to the community.
- Tuesday, June 16, 2015, 11:30 – 12:30 at the Brookmill Club (2857 Brookmill Drive). Food tasting and fun, educational activities about nutrition and portion sizes
- Wednesday, June 17, 2015, 11:30 – 12:30 at River Cove (2430 River Cove Lane). Fort Wayne Fire Department will be on hand with a fire truck and tips about the importance of healthy eating habits.
- Thursday, June 18, 2015, 11:30 – 12:30 at the Baldwin Creek Apartments (2020 Hobson Road). Arts and crafts featuring pictures of food. Information about the free meal program and its importance.
- Friday, June 19, 2015, 11:30 – 12:30 at the McCormick Club (3005 McCormick Avenue). Activities and games for residents of the McCormick apartments. Information about the free meal program and its importance.
The Clubs goal is to distribute over 24,000 meals between June 9, 2015 and August 9, 2015, according to Tim Williams, Outreach Coordinator & Nutrition Supervisor at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne, Last year, 16,149 lunches were distributed through the program. The meals initiative is an Indiana Department of Education affiliated Summer Feed program.
