Aviation scholarships awarded to local high school seniors

(May 27, 2015) – The Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority and the Greater Fort Wayne Aviation Museum are proud to announce the 2015 Jim Kelley Memorial Scholarship recipients: Nathaniel Roe of Angola High School and Zane Csuhta of Bishop Luers High School. Both winners will receive a $1,500 scholarship to pursue a career in an aviation-related field.

The Jim Kelley Memorial Scholarship was created in 2006 in memory of Jim Kelley, a local entrepreneur and champion of aviation in Northeast Indiana. The scholarship is open to high school seniors planning to pursue an aviation-related degree at an accredited college or university or those enrolled in the Airframe & Powerplant (A & P) Certification program at Ivy Tech Community College, located at Smith Field Airport. To be eligible, students must submit their GPA, an essay, and one recommendation.

“The Airport Authority is very supportive of growing the region’s aviation community through education,” said Scott Hinderman, Executive Director of Airports. “These students have already displayed their commitment to the industry and we look forward to their continued success in aviation.”

Roe plans to study aerospace engineering at Purdue University. He is planning to take flight training and join the ROTC program at Purdue in hopes of becoming a Navy pilot. After completing his service with the Navy, Roe would like to join NASA in hopes of becoming an astronaut. Csuhta is currently enrolled in the Anthis aviation maintenance technology program at Ivy Tech. He plans to continue his education at Ivy Tech after graduation to complete his A & P certification.
