Fatal Shooting Investigation, 3500 block of Oliver Street

Details:
On Monday, 05/25/2015, at approximately 11:05 PM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 3500 block of Oliver Street reference a shooting. Citizens called 911 and reported they heard several gunshots and a male subject was lying in the middle of the street. Officers arrived on scene and located a male/adult victim lying in the middle of the street. The victim was unresponsive and appeared to be suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. Officers provided first aid to the victim until paramedics arrived on scene. Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital in critical condition. Upon arriving at the hospital, the victim was pronounced deceased by a physician.
Several witnesses provided a clothing description for the suspect and advised he fled the scene on foot. Officers immediately saturated the area and established a perimeter. Officers located a subject matching the clothing description in the area and he was apprehended after a short foot pursuit. In addition, officers located a firearm in a nearby alley.
Detectives are currently interviewing the individual the officers apprehended. At the time of this release, the individual has not been arrested in connection with the shooting and is only considered a person of interest. Additional Detectives are interviewing witnesses and nearby neighbors where the shooting occurred. Crime Scene Technicians are currently processing the scene and collecting evidence. The Allen County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity along with the cause and manner of death.
This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
