Jones goes deep in middle game at South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (May 2, 2015) – A late lead slipped away from the TinCaps in a 5-4 loss at South Bend on Saturday night at Four Winds Field. With Fort Wayne up 4-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Yasiel Balaguert ripped a three-run double to right-center field that proved to be the game-winning hit.

After South Bend took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the TinCaps tied the game in the fourth and then went on top. Third baseman Duanel Jones belted his second home run of the season to the bleachers in left field on the first pitch of the fourth. The 21-year-old from the Dominican Republic now has 14 RBIs, which leads the team and ranks tied for fifth most in the Midwest League.

Later in the fourth, a pair of South Bend errors enabled Fort Wayne to add another pair and lead, 3-1.
South Bend (13-10) got a run back in the fifth on Chesny Young’s second RBI-single of the game only for the TinCaps to respond in the next half-inning with an RBI-groundout by first baseman Trae Santos.

Not to be overlooked in the loss, Fort Wayne (6-14) starter Taylor Cox held South Bend to one earned run in 4 1/3 innings. Colby Blueberg, in his season debut with the TinCaps, struck out five out of the bullpen in 2 2/3 perfect innings. Seth Lucio (L, 0-1) worked the eighth.

For South Bend, Tyler Ihrgi (W, 1-1) picked up the win out of the pen, while James Farris (S, 1) registered the save. Starter Trevor Clifton went the first five frames.

Fort Wayne and South Bend conclude their three-game series on Sunday at Four Winds Field at 2:05 p.m. In a matchup of right-handers, Dinelson Lamet (0-1, 3.00) is slated to start for the TinCaps against Ryan Williams (2-0, 0.46). The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380, Box Score, and the TuneIn Radio app.
