News release from the TinCaps:

TinCaps Will Have True Opening Day at Home Sunday

MIDLAND, Mich. (April 11, 2015) – The bad news is the TinCaps couldn’t play for a third straight day on Saturday at Dow Diamond against the Great Lakes Loons. The good news is now the TinCaps get to have a true Opening Day at Parkview Field on Sunday.

Per a release from the Loons: “Due to a deep frost that is still thawing and creating excessive amounts of moisture beneath the playing surface at Dow Diamond, today’s series finale scheduled between the Great Lakes Loons and Fort Wayne TinCaps has been postponed.

“The Loons grounds crew has been working extensively on the field throughout the week, making every attempt to get the field to a safe and playable state. However, the warming temperatures this morning have exasperated the thawing process and perpetuated a sponge-like condition, making the field unplayable.

“‘While unfortunate, the field is not to a point where we feel comfortable sending both teams out to play today,’ Loons general manager Scott Litle said. ‘Our number one objective is player safety, and given the current state of the playing surface, there is no alternative than to postpone today’s game. The field has gotten worse as the temperature has warmed up today. This is a unique situation and is not an issue caused by the rain earlier this week.'”

Dates and times to reschedule the series have not been finalized yet.

This isn’t the first time Fort Wayne has had an entire series postponed. In 2007, the Wizards were scheduled to open their season at Lansing, but a combination of cold, rain, and snow postponed games from April 5-7.

The TinCaps are set to host the Lansing Lugnuts on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. at Parkview Field. Tickets are still available on https://www.tincapstickets.com/web/, by calling 260-482-6400, or by visiting the Parkview Field Ticket Office.

Sunday’s game can be seen on XFINITY Channel 81 throughout Indiana and heard on ESPN Radio 1380, TinCaps.com, and the TuneIn Radio app.
