CLHS to celebrate Fine Arts Week

(April 6, 2015) — Concordia Lutheran High School is celebrating the fine arts with a week full of activities beginning April 13.

CLHS has a long history in the history with award-winning band and choir groups and noted artists. During this Fine Arts Week, students in the band, choir and art classes will have a chance to showcase their work throughout the school and to the community. The theme for the week is “Rejoice in the Lord Always.”

On April 14, Dave Avanzino, an artist for the Walt Disney Company, will be on campus for a morning in-school assembly. He will demonstrate his work to students as well as talk to them about careers as artists. Over the past decade, Avanzino has developed one-of-a-kind pieces for Disneyland, Walt Disney World and the Disney Cruise Line. He creates paper sculptures in shadowbox frames with a variety of media.

The Fine Arts Week will conclude on April 19 with the Lutheran Schools Music and Arts Festival. There will be a free art show throughout the school from noon to 4 p.m. and a free concert from CLHS and Lutheran grade school students at 2 p.m. in the CLHS auditorium. Lunch will be served in the CLHS cafeteria from noon to 1 p.m. The cost of the meal is $6 at the door or $5 in advance. Tickets may be purchased at area Lutheran schools.
