Rev. Terry Anderson to file for City Council at Large
(January 29, 2015) – Fort Wayne native Rev. Terry Anderson, longtime community leader, minister, nonprofit executive and advisor to Mayor Tom Henry has declared his candidacy for Fort Wayne City Council at Large in the Democratic Primary.
In announcing his candidacy, Anderson said, “I love Fort Wayne. I’m proud of who we are. I’m excited about who we are becoming. I’m committed to strengthening our neighborhoods and families, addressing problems through public dialogue and creative action, and promoting opportunities for business owners and working people. I’m eager to work with Mayor Henry and the citizens of Fort Wayne as we continue to move our city forward.”
Anderson is executive director of Just Neighbors Interfaith Homeless Network. He has formerly served as senior pastor of First Presbyterian Church, associate director of Associated Churches, IPFW Campus Minister, program director for Parkview Hospital and director of the Samaritan Counseling Center. He holds graduate degrees in psychology, theology, and social work
In 2008, Rev. Anderson was honored to receive the Gandhi King Ikeda Community Builders Award from the Martin Luther King International Center of Morehouse College who cited his “tireless and courageous efforts to promote peace, justice, and brotherhood” and his “extraordinary efforts to promote unity through diversity.”
Anderson and his wife Janet raised their two young adult children in this community and are encouraged by the direction they see Fort Wayne heading. “This is an amazingly caring and compassionate community in the midst of a great revitalization. There could be no better time or place for me to serve the city I love.”
