Avila announces bid for City council at large

(January 28, 2015) – Mike Avila announced that he will run for City Council at Large on the Democratic ticket.

“I am born and raised in this city,” Said Avila, “and I care deeply about Fort Wayne and our future. I want the opportunity to give back with my time and knowledge to the citizens by being seated on City Council at large. ”

Avila currently lives in Aboite Township with his wife Kim. They have two daughters – Marie a second grade teacher, and Beth who is finishing her PHD program.

Avila is field representative for Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers of Indiana/Kentucky for over 18 years. During most of that time he served as Business Manager for Northeast Indiana. Avila has served as vice-president of Northeast Indiana Building and Construction Trades Council. He currently is seated on the Fort Wayne Board of Public Works. “With these positions comes huge responsibility for the welfare of families. I feel this experience has readied me for the role of Fort Wayne City Council,” said Avila.

“As I sit on the Board of Public Works,” said Avila, “I am a part of the great progress in rebuilding the infrastructure from roads to sewers to water lines. Fort Wayne is moving in the right direction, but there is more to do.”

“I want to be a common sense voice working with the other members of the Council to provide services and opportunities for all of the citizens of Fort Wayne.” Avila said.

Avila says public safety, infrastructure and economic opportunities for all are his main issues to focus on. “Fort Wayne is a fine city, but there is always more that can be done, and together, we can do better!”
