World AIDS Day event offers education and free HIV testing
(November 25, 2014) — In honor of World AIDS Day, the IPFW Resource Center is partnering with the AIDS Task Force to offer free HIV testing and a presentation on the disease’s social stigma. The event takes place Monday, December 1, in the Walb Union Classic Ballroom. The event is free and open to the public and the campus community.
“AIDS is both a social and health care issue,” said Julie Creek, director of the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs. “At this event, we can address both sides through education and testing.”
At noon, AIDS Task Force community outreach coordinator Timothy Price will speak on “Stopping the Deadliest Epidemic—Stigma.” Price will look at the language we use and the assumptions we make, exploring how they affect the prevention of HIV infection and the lives of those living with HIV.
The AIDS Task Force will offer free HIV tests from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The test takes 20 minutes.

On World AIDS Day, people from around the world come together and bring attention to the global AIDS epidemic. This marks the 26th anniversary of World AIDS Day. The day is designed to increase awareness, fight prejudice, and improve educational efforts towards stopping the spread of HIV and AIDS in our community. World AIDS Day was envisioned as an opportunity for people everywhere to demonstrate both the importance attached to the fight against AIDS and their solidarity and unity in this effort.
