News release from INDOT:
Weekend Closures Scheduled for SR 1/Dupont Road Bridge September 19-22 and 26-29
Ramps remain open
ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (September 15, 2014) – Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces the consecutive weekend closures for SR 1/Dupont Road Bridge over I-69 on September 19-22 and September 26-29, weather permitting. The closures will begin on each Friday, at 8 p.m., and reopen on Monday, at 6 a.m. Although the bridge will be closed, the ramps will remain open.
The official detour uses Auburn Road, Union Chapel Road and Diebold Road. See attachment for additional detour information.
All lanes on I-69 northbound and southbound within the work zone are open and the speed limit is now back to 65 mph.
The closures are due to the reconfiguration of the ramps and the construction of the pedestrian walkway across the bridge.
After the first weekend closure, the traffic pattern will be operating in the new diverging diamond pattern, with one lane in each direction open. After the second weekend closure, all lanes will be open for traffic, with intermittent lane closures, as some work must occur in the median.
Motorists should be aware that the traffic signals at each end of the interchange will be monitored and adjusted as needed.
The diverging diamond interchange is the first of its kind in Indiana. Drivers will cross over to the opposite side of the roadway between two ramps, allowing efficient movements to and from I-69. They will be guided to the left through the interchange with signals, signs and pavement markings.
