Today’s AFW Sunday Series features interviews with the two candidates for the Allen County Council 1st District seat.

Republican incumbent Kevin Howell

On July 30, 2014, we sat down with Republican incumbent Kevin Howell who is seeking re-election to his Allen County Council 1st district seat.

The following subjects were covered: his background, why he is running, thoughts on the referendum vote to eliminate the Board of Commissioners and replace them with a single county executive, how county council should then be made up, status of the county’s financial situation, the Sheriff’s budget, top three issues facing the county council, land banking, economic development and passenger rail service.

Democrat challenger Sharon Tucker

On July 25, 2014, we sat down with Democrat Sharon Tucker who is running for the Allen County Council 1st district seat against incumbent Republican Kevin Howell.

We talk about her background, why she is running, the top 3 issues she feels is facing the County Council, size of the district, economic development, the referendum to eliminate the Board of Commissioners, how many county council districts there should be, government role in economic development, whether township government is needed, if the City of Fort Wayne should contribute to the criminal justice system, changes to the state constitution, tax abatements, and downtown Fort Wayne efforts.
