Allen County SPCA Reduces Canine Adoption Fee to Spur Adoptions

(August 27, 2014) – The Allen County SPCA announced this week that it has reduced the canine adoption fee for all adoptable dogs, regardless of age, to $50. The reduced adoption fees are in effect through Sunday.

“Unfortunately, it’s common this time of year, when kids have returned to school, for pet parents to surrender their animals to shelters,” said director, Jessica Henry. It is the practice of the Allen County SPCA to pull adoptable animals from crowded municipal shelters. “When our own adoption center is full,” Henry continued, “we’re unable to offer as much help to other shelters.”

To spur adoptions and to make room for other animals in need, including a waiting list of owner-surrenders, the Allen County SPCA has reduced its usual canine adoption fee of $50-$100, to just $50 for all dogs, including puppies. “Our hope is to quickly find homes for all the dogs in our building so that we can help other shelters like ours that are brimming with wonderful animals,” Henry stated.

All dogs have been or will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. “We know that $50 for a pet is a great value, but we know also, that adopting a pet is priceless. At the Allen County SPCA, when someone adopts a pet, they save two lives – the life of the animal they’re taking home, plus they make room for us to admit another animal. It’s a win-win for everyone.”

The reduced fees are in place through this Sunday, August 31. Shelter hours are Tuesday-Friday 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday noon – 4 p.m. Adopters are asked to arrive at least a half hour prior to closing.

The mission of the Allen County SPCA is to promote the prevention of cruelty to animals by providing a safe haven for animals, an effective and comprehensive adoption program, education and outreach programs for the community and deep and broad membership and volunteer programs.
