Six years ago tonight, the Fort Wayne Wizards played their last home game at Memorial Stadium at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
Construction on the new downtown ball park, Parkview Field, was well under way.
Today’s AroundFortWayne ThrowBack Thursday looks at photos and video from that last game as well as photos of Parkview Field taken from the Lincoln Tower Observation Deck that afternoon.
According to Wiki, Memorial Stadium saw 6,106 fans in attendance that last game. Overall, the stadium saw 4,046,261 from the first game on April 18, 1993 through the last. Consider that on September 2, 2013, the TinCaps – only in their 4th season – had already hit the 2 million fan mark. What took 15 years at Memorial Stadium could only take about half that time in Parkview Field.
South Bend defeated Fort Wayne with a final score of 17 to 6 in that final game.
