Indiana’s own Patrick Rodgers to compete at Hotel Fitness Championship

(August 21, 2014) – The Western Golf Association, host of the 2014 Hotel Fitness Championship (Aug. 25-31) at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, announced today that Avon native Patrick Rodgers has committed to compete in the tournament. Rodgers finished the regular PGA TOUR season with 85 non-member FedExCup points, giving him the opportunity to earn his PGA TOUR card for 2014-15 via the Web.com Tour Finals.

As a professional, Rodgers has competed in seven PGA TOUR events this season, making five cuts and earning $75,104. The tournaments he has played include the Travelers Championship, Quicken Loans National, Greenbrier Classic, John Deere Classic, RBC Canadian Open, Barracuda Championship and Wyndham Championship.

Prior to becoming a professional golfer in 2014, Rodgers competed at the collegiate level for three years as a member of Stanford University’s men’s golf team. He currently holds the all-time best Stanford career scoring average of 70.31, as well as the lowest-ever season scoring average of 69.41. His 11 victories left him tied with Tiger Woods for the most all-time career wins at Stanford. Rodgers has also received prestigious golf awards including the Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year, Ben Hogan Award and Haskins Award, to name a few.

Rogers has also won the WGA’s 2010 Western Junior and was a medalist in its 2013 Western Amateur.

The Hotel Fitness Championship is the first of four Web.com Tour Finals events that will determine the second set of 25 players who will earn their cards for the upcoming 2014-15 PGA TOUR season under the TOUR’s enhanced qualifying system. Rodgers is entered in all four Finals events. The first set of 25 cards will be determined at the conclusion of the Web.com Tour’s Regular Season in Portland on Sunday.

Players eligible for the Hotel Fitness Championship include the top-75 money winners on the Web.com Tour at the conclusion of the Regular Season; players who finished 126-200 on the PGA TOUR’s FedExCup points list at the end of last week’s Wyndham Championship (less those with exemptions); and non-members who earn enough points to place them among 126-200 on the FedExCup points list at the end of the regular season.
