Game recap from the TinCaps:

Losing Streak Hits 12 in 8-1 Defeat

Midland, MI (July 10, 2014) – As if July weren’t tough enough with its long, searing hot days and at times insufferable humidity, it became a little bit more arduous for the Fort Wayne TinCaps Thursday night. In an 8-1 defeat against the Great Lakes Loons, the TinCaps lost their 12th straight game, and were swept in a three-game series by the Midwest League’s Dodgers affiliate.

Great Lakes (11-9, 45-45) took control of the game with a five-run third inning. TinCaps starter Yimmi Brasoban (0-4), making his second start since returning from Short-Season Eugene, navigated the first two innings having fanned two and allowed one run, but was his own worst enemy in the third. He walked three batters in the frame, and let the first run pass on an RBI double by Paul Hoenecke. The inning’s second run scored on a passed ball charged to catcher Ryan Miller, and the last three runs came on a two-out bases-clearing double by first baseman Webster Rivas.

Justin Livengood recorded the last out of the third and worked three innings behind Brasoban, allowing only one run, which came on a solo home run by Josmar Cordero.

Fort Wayne (5-15, 35-54) scored its only run on a Franmil Reyes two-out RBI single in the top of the third against Loons starter Victor Arano. The 19-year-old righthander worked five innings and scattered seven hits, walking one and striking out seven. Again, Thursday night, the TinCaps struggled with runners in scoring position, going 1-for-11 and stranding 10 runners on base.

Out of the Loons bullpen Luis Chirinos hurled a scoreless sixth, and Ralston Cash worked the last three innings to record his first save of the season.

Fort Wayne now returns home for a four-game series against the South Bend Silver Hawks. Friday’s game, set for 7:05 p.m., is set to feature Cody Hebner on the mound for Fort Wayne against South Bend’s Sean Furney. The game can be seen on XFINITY 81 and heard on ESPN Radio 1380 and TinCaps.com.
