Last call for Germanfest at Headwaters Park.

There is one more morning of activities, tomorrow morning, but the Germanfest fun at Headwaters Park ends tonight.

  • 8:00 am to 11:00 am – Volksmarch (10K walk) Starts at the Headwaters Park Festival Plaza. Start between 8:00 am – 11:00 am, finish by 2:00 pm.
  • 8:30 am Registration, 10:00 am VisionWalk begins at Headwaters Park. The Foundation Fighting Blindness will hold a 5K VisionWalk with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m., the walk beginning at 10:00 a.m. Join us as we raise critical research dollars! Complete information is available by visiting www.fightingblindness.org or by contacting Rick Dahlstrom, President, (260) 710-1701.
  • 10:00 am to NOON – 4 Swordsmen of the Apocalypse Fencing. At the Headwaters Park Festival Plaza Culture Tent Area. The 4 Swordsmen of the Apocalypse Fencing organization will be honoring the German sport of fencing with fencing demonstrations. Members of the group will be on hand to answer questions. Budding swordsmen will be able to try their skills with safefoam swords.
  • 10:00 am – Volleyball at River City. Coed Fours “A”, “A-“, & “B+”. $15 per player. For more information or to enter, contact Mike Harvey at (260) 402-3999 or fairplaybeach@yahoo.com.
  • 10:00 am to 1:30 pm – 13th Annual Germanfest Bake Off at the Headwaters Park Festival Plaza Culture Tent Area. Drop off desserts and breads at the Culture tent from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Judging at 12:00 noon. Awards announce on the Main Stage at 1:30 p.m. Bring your best authentic German dessert or bread along with the recipe to the Culture Tent at Headwaters Park Festival Plaza. The three best entries will receive prizes, not to mention the glory and fame from those who taste the offerings. Please bring your entries in disposable containers.   • 11:00 am to 2:00 pm – Sentimental Journey in the south parking lot of Headwaters Park. Carriage rides for All Occasions will provide free horse-drawn carriage rides for all.
  • 11:00 am to 4:00 pm – Alpine Express
  • 11:30 am to 6:00 pm – Familienfest (Family Fest) at the Headwaters Park Lower Level. Bring the whole family for a fun filled day at Germanfest 2014. There are so many fun things to do, you’ll have a hard time deciding what to do first! Fun activities and live entertainment abound at Familienfest!
  • 11:30 am to noon – The Suzuki Strings at the Headwaters Park Lower Level. The Suzuki Strings students ages 5 – 14 will perform folk songs and classical pieces by German composers on violin, violas and cellos.
  • 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm – The Shire of the Shadowed Stars at the Headwater Park lower level. Step back into the Middle Ages when Germany was known as the Holy Roman Empire. See recreations of armored combat, dancing, fencing and historical displays that showcase how our German ancestors lived. The Society for Creative Anachronism is an international historical recreation and education society that features the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The Fort Wayne chapter is the Shire of Shadowed Stars. For more information contact: chatelaine@shadowedstars.org.
  • 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm – Gera Accordion Orchestra. Direct from our sister city, Gera, Germany, the Ost Thueringen Jugend Akkordeon Orchester directed by Arnt Schmutzler will perform.
  • 2:00 pm – Fort Wayne Taenzer.
  • 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm – National Weiner Dog Finals on the lower level of Headwaters Park. Join Germanfest and 98.9 The Bear for the 2014 National Weiner Dog Finals! As those “hot dogs” battle it out for bragging rights to the fastest weiner dog. Listen to radio station 98.9 The Bear for details. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. All dogs must be pre-registered prior to the race day at 98.9 The Bear. Sponsored by Miller Brewing.
  • 4:00 pm – Fort Wayne Taenzer.

  • 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm – The Rheingold Band.
  • 6:00 pm – Fort Wayne Taenzer.
  • 6:00 pm – Trauben Tromp at the Festival Plaza Culture Tent Area. All you need are three crazy friends and a lot of stamina! Three teams of three members each compete against each other and the clock to see who can stomp the most juice from over 300 pounds of grapes. All participants win prizes and the top 3 teams take home trophies. Sign up for this event at the Information Booth located at the entrance of the festival. Only 9 teams can play, so make sure you get signed up early! Must be 18 years or older to play. Participation is FREE!
  • 7:00 pm – Polka Like A Star on the Festival Plaza Main Stage. Patrick Didier and his charming assistants from American Styles Ballroom Dance Studio will be facilitating this time honored traditional Polka contest. Don’t know how to Polka? No worries because everyone gets a quick lesson to get started. Judges weave in and out of the couples throughout the dance, eliminating couples from play. The judges rank the last three couples and award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. Everyone is a winner at Germanfest! Participation is Free!
  • 8:30 pm – Fort Wayne Taenzer.
  • 9:00 pm to 1:00 am – The Jay Fox Band.
