Kelley Hartley Hutton Named IPFW Athletic Director

Fort Wayne, Indiana (February 17, 2014) – Following a six-month national search, Kelley Hartley Hutton, head women’s volleyball coach at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), has been named director of athletics, effective immediately.

Kelley Hartley Hutton recently completed her 15th season at the helm of the women’s volleyball program. Her 314 wins make her the most successful coach in program history. Hartley Hutton also previously served for 12 years at IPFW as senior woman administrator and associate athletic director.

With her appointment, Hartley Hutton becomes the first female athletic director at IPFW. Hartley Hutton joined the university in 1999 as the head women’s volleyball coach.

“Kelley is an enthusiastic leader and proven administrator who brings a wealth of experience to the athletic director position,” said Chancellor Vicky Carwein. “We are excited about her ability to lead our program, to serve as an advocate for athletes and athletics, and to promote the quality of the student-athlete experience at a D-1 institution like IPFW.”

A graduate of the University of Toledo, Hartley Hutton played four years with the Rockets, serving as team captain during her junior and senior years. She earned an M.S. in sports administration from Bowling Green State University while working at the Mid-American Conference (MAC) office. After completing a one-year NCAA internship with the MAC she was appointed to a full-time position. Hartley Hutton came to IPFW after serving one year at Robert Morris University as head women’s volleyball coach, taking that program through a rebuilding time.

“I am both excited and humbled to be chosen for this position,” said Hartley Hutton. “I am looking forward to helping this department continue to move forward, both academically and athletically. My immediate priority will be to continue to build relationships with our fans and donors, and grow the base of support.”

The university also has announced that associate head women’s volleyball coach Steve Florio has been named women’s volleyball head coach, filling the vacancy left by Hartley Hutton with her promotion.
