IPFW to Host Inaugural Midwest Public Affairs Conference

(February 13, 2014) – Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) is proud to announce that the Department of Public Policy will host the inaugural Midwest Public Affairs Conference (MPAC) on March 27-29, 2014.

MPAC is an educational consortium that promotes research, collaboration, and socialization between academics, graduate students, policymakers, and practitioners. The conference is an American Society for Public Administration (ASPA)-affiliated event which serves the Midwest in a similar manner as other regional organizations, such as the Northeast Conference on Public Administration (NECoPA) and the Southeastern Conference for Public Administration (SECoPA).

“IPFW’s support of MPAC will expand opportunities for public affairs research and education in the Midwest and beyond,” said Stephen Kleinschmit, assistant professor of public policy at IPFW and MPAC conference chair. “This year’s conference includes presenters from 53 institutions; representing faculty, students and practitioners from 14 states and six countries. The Department of Public Policy is pleased to play a central role in hosting this new initiative.”

The 2014 conference theme is “Does management still matter?” and topics of discussion will include ethics, justice, and morality, economic decline and recovery, the role between citizens and their government, fiscal policy, taxation, and civic engagement and governance.

The conference’s primary service region encompasses portions of ASPA Districts 2-4 and covers nine states, 56 NASPAA-member programs, 18 doctoral degree-granting institutions, and 16 ASPA chapters. Additionally, the executive board is working with the Institute of Government at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock to establish an affiliated publication, the Journal of Public and Nonprofit Affairs.

Conference registration can be made online. For more information, contact Stephen Kleinschmit, 2014 MPAC conference chair, at kleinscs@ipfw.edu.
