Winter storm on the way!

(January 4, 2014) – A major winter storm will impact the region this evening into Sunday. Snow will begin in northwest portions of the area this afternoon and evening, with snow beginning after midnight in the rest of the area. The heaviest snow will fall during the day Sunday with gusty winds. Snow will begin to diminish Sunday evening, outside of lake-effect areas. Near-blizzard conditions are expected Sunday night into Monday with winds 25-35 mph. A winter storm warning is in effect for the entire area with snow totals of 10 to 14 inches expected, with locally higher amounts near Lake Michigan. Travel will be strongly discouraged this weekend as roads may become impassable due to blowing and drifting snow.
