The National Weather Service’s weather story for today and the weekend:
Heavy snow followed by extreme cold
(January 3, 2014) – Winter weather will wreak havoc on the region this weekend and into next week. Gusty winds could create areas of blowing and drifting snow later today and into tomorrow before a strong system moves through the region Saturday night and Sunday, sweeping 5 to 10 inches of new snowfall across the area, with highest snow amounts near the central IN/northwest OH border. A winter storm watch is in effect from tomorrow night through Sunday evening. Extremely cold arctic air will move in behind the system for early next week, with wind chills dropping to nearly 40 degrees below zero. Lake effect showers will be possible as well Monday, diminishing in coverage through Tuesday.
