Homecoming 2013 Will Have Students ‘Feel the Rumble’

(November 25, 2013) – Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) is gearing up for Homecoming 2013. This year’s week-long celebration, “Feel the Rumble,” will run from December 2-7, 2013, finishing on Saturday with the IPFW men’s basketball game against Dartmouth at 7 p.m.

The week kicks off with Coffee and Donuts with Alumni Monday at 9 a.m. Alumni will be in Kettler Hall to pass out treats to current students.

On Tuesday, students, staff, and faculty can compete in the first round of the cupcake eating contest in the Walb Classic Ballroom from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Winners from this round will face off Saturday at the tailgate celebration before the Homecoming game.

Faculty and staff take on students Wednesday for a faculty/staff vs. student basketball game at the Gates Sports Center. Admission fee for the event is a canned good item. The game starts at 7 p.m.

Thursday begins with a dodgeball tournament at 7 p.m. at Gates Sports Center. At midnight, students have the opportunity to participate in the Polar Bear Plunge. Students will meet at Housing, run to the Venderly Bridge, and jump into the frigid waters of the Saint Joseph River.

Starting at noon on Friday there will be a pep rally at the Gates Sports Center. Players from the basketball team will be doing meet-and-greets. During the pep rally, students will be able to participate in the Chuck a Don contest, as well as witness the championship round of the cupcake eating contest.

The Alumni Center will host the Alumni Awards starting at 3 p.m. Saturday. The Hall of Fame Lunch begins at 4 p.m. Attendees have the opportunity to benefit the Mastodon Athletic Scholarship Fund by participating in the silent auction. Items available for bidding range from a private wine tasting at Two EE’s Winery in Roanoke to an official 2012 Olympic jacket autographed by Lloy Ball. A homecoming celebration begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Coliseum Expo Center, complete with a hog roast. Following the homecoming celebration will be the men’s basketball game in the main arena at the Coliseum, when the Mastodons will take on Dartmouth at 7 p.m. After the week-long voting ends, the Homecoming king and queen along with their court will be announced at halftime.
