Two Pick-Ups Scheduled for Each Neighborhood

(October 4, 2013) – Leaf pick-up in the City’s 355 neighborhoods begins Monday, October 21, 2013. The Street Department will collect leaves in two separate sweeps through each neighborhood. Crews will roll into the neighborhoods between October 21 and December 6, 2013.

The 2013 Fort Wayne Leaf Pick-up schedule will be:

  • Oct. 21-25 South
  • Oct. 28-Nov. 1 North
  • Nov. 4-8 Central
  • Nov. 12-15 South
  • Nov. 18-22 North
  • Dec. 2-6 Central

The week of November 25-29 will be used as a catch-up week. There will be no leaf collection on Monday, November 11, due to the Veterans Day holiday.

Leaf collection can occur on any day of the designated collection week. It is important for residents to have leaves ready for pick-up by 7 a.m. on Monday of their designated week. Crews cannot backtrack through neighborhoods.

To schedule a pick-up of leaves placed in biodegradable bags, residents can call 3-1-1. The bags will be picked-up within two business days.

Where are the crews today?

Beginning on the afternoon of October 21, residents can visit the City’s website at www.cityoffortwayne.org/leaves to view daily updates of the specific neighborhoods that crews will be in on a particular day. Additionally, beginning October 21, residents can call the leaf pick-up hotline, 427-2302 to get daily updates. You may also download a map of the leaf collection schedule here.

Preparing leaves for pick-up

Leaf collection is provided at the street only. Leaves are to be raked to the curb or park strip in front of the residence or placed in biodegradable bags for collection. Other yard waste should not be mixed with the leaves, and cars should not be parked over the leaves.

Burning leaves within the City limits is a violation of City Code. The fine is $50; $75 after 30 days (Ordinance #74.70)

Safety and maintenance

As a safety precaution and to assist motorists, parents should remind children to not play in leaf piles near the street.

Residents should make sure that leaves are not near a storm drain and that storm drains are free and clear to handle rain water.
