Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications Due Aug. 9

(July 25, 2013) – The application for free and reduced-price meals and textbooks for students is now available online for the 2013-14 school year. Applications are accepted throughout the year but need to be returned by Aug. 9 to be processed in time for the first day of school on Aug. 19.

Applications are available online at https://ftwayne.schoollunchapp.com. Paper applications are available at the Student Services Office, 1200 S. Clinton St., and Nutrition Services, 3211 W. Ludwig Road. Applications are available in English and Spanish.

Last year, 71 percent of FWCS students participated in the federal program, providing free meals to 18,442 students and reduced-price meals to 2,581 students. Regular cost for an elementary lunch is $1.50, and breakfast is $1.10; middle and high school students pay 10 cents more for each meal. Reduced meal prices are 40 cents for lunch and 30 cents for breakfast for students at every grade level.

Each school year, FWCS Nutrition Services serves more than 4.5 million meals that meet recommended standards for calcium, iron, protein and vitamins A and C, as well as track levels of cholesterol, sodium and fiber. Nutritional analysis for each meal is available at www.fortwayneschools.org. Families can pre-pay for meals through the My School Bucks website at https://www.myschoolbucks.com/ver2/getmain?requestAction=home.
