City of Fort Wayne, Visit Fort Wayne to Celebrate “Dan O’Connell Day”
(August 1, 2013) – The City of Fort Wayne and Visit Fort Wayne Board of Directors will recognize Visit Fort Wayne President/CEO Dan O’Connell for 25 years of service with “Dan O’Connell Day” on August 1. The ceremony will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. at the Visitors Center.
Mayor Tom Henry, city representatives, Visit Fort Wayne Board of Directors and staff members will honor O’Connell with an official proclamation, plaque and naming of the Visitors Center Board Room, which will be called the “Dan O’Connell Board Room.”
“Most people in this city don’t realize what Dan and his team do to promote, enhance and benefit this city,” said Tim Beere, co-owner of DeBrand Fine Chocolates and Visit Fort Wayne Board Chairperson. “Fort Wayne is very fortunate to have a guy like Dan leading the efforts of Visit Fort Wayne. Dan and his team do a fantastic job and that benefits all of us!”
Since 1988, O’Connell has been at the forefront of helping Fort Wayne bring in millions of visitors and generate billions of dollars in economic impact into our community. He has developed, implemented and performed new sales and marketing strategies that have lured in thousands of local, state, Midwest and national conventions, conferences and sports tournaments. In fact, under O’Connell’s leadership, Fort Wayne will host a new-city record of more than 20 national groups in 2013.
Most recently, O’Connell helped Fort Wayne earn the 2014 Indiana State Republican Convention after bringing in the 2012 Indiana State Democratic Convention. Both groups had never held their respective conventions outside of Indianapolis.
