Homicide Investigation/Attempted Robbery
Date/Time of Incident: June 1, 2013 at 11:01 p.m.
Location of Incident: West Packard at South Wayne Street
Deceased Subject: Adult male/black
Suspect still at large: Male/Black/late teen’s to early 20’s; 5’06”, medium build. Last seen wearing a blue South Pole hooded jacket, black shorts, black socks, flip-flops
(June 2, 2013) – On June 1, 2013 at 11:01 p.m., officers of the Fort Wayne Police Department were dispatched to a call of a shooting at West Packard at South Wayne Street. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers spoke with witnesses at the scene. Initial reports indicate that an adult male was on or near the front porch of his private residence, which near the intersection of West Packard and South Wayne Street, when he was approached by two male/black subjects. The two subjects then attempted to rob the resident. The resident, an adult male, was armed with a handgun and fired several rounds striking the adult subject several times.
The second subject fled on foot and was last seen running northbound in the neighborhood and was reported to have been wearing a blue South Pole hooded jacket, black shorts, black socks and flip-flop shoes. The resident, during the engagement was also shot in the foot. The resident was treated at a local hospital and is reported to be in good condition. The resident immediately call the police to report the incident.
The male/black subject was pronounced dead at the scene. A weapon was recovered near the body of the deceased subject.
Detectives, representatives of the Allen County Coroner’s Office and Allen County Prosecutor’s Office were notified and arrived to investigate. More information is expected after an autopsy is performed.
The name of the victim will be released by the Allen County Coroner’s Office. Also, the exact cause and manner of death will be determined by the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
