Homeward Bound Walk this Sunday, April 28, 2013
(April 25, 2013) – The Northeast Indiana will come together this Sunday, April 28, 3013, to take a stand against homelessness in our community. Homeward Bound is an annual walk to help support homeless families and children in Northeast Indiana with shelter and other essential needs. Participants can register for free to walk, run, ride bikes, or roller skate through the 5k loop beginning at Headwaters Park and continuing through West Central and Downtown Fort Wayne. Each year, hundreds of walkers at Homeward Bound help raise thousands of dollars to provide housing and help fight homelessness.
Those wishing to participate may register online at www.homewardboundindiana.org/northeast, at Headwaters Park on the day of the walk, beginning at noon. Registration and festivities will fun from noon until 1:30 pm, at which point there will be greetings from dignitaries such as Mayor Tom Henry and Terra Brantley of WANE-TV, who will be leading the walk as Grand Marshall. The walk will begin promptly at 2:00 pm. The day will conclude at 3:30 pm with awards ceremonies, entertainment, and activities.
Donations may be made by those who do not wish to walk or attend the event also by attending the aforementioned website.
This year’s benefitting agencies include Genesis Outreach, Hope House, Huntington House Shelter, Interfaith Hospitality Network of Fort Wayne, Pathfinders Services, The Rescue Mission, Vincent Village, Whitington Homes, The Women’s Bureau, and YWCA Northeast Indiana – all local agencies providing services to homeless individuals and families in our community. The walk is a statewide partnership with the Indiana Association for Community Economic Development (IACED) and Lilly Endowment, Inc.
