AFP-Indiana Applauds Initial Move for Tax Relief
Urges General Assembly to Keep Working

(April 4, 2013) Indianapolis, IN – The Indiana Chapter of Americans for Prosperity is encouraged today by the announcement by the Senate Appropriations Committee that their budget will provide a 3% income tax cut as well as an immediate elimination of the inheritance tax; a policy AFP championed over a year ago.

“The Senate Appropriations Committee’s announcement today is encouraging, and it’s a good first-step in what we hope is a victory for taxpayers,” explained Chase Downham. “However, we are asking the entire General Assembly to keep working, hold the line on spending and provide critical tax relief to all Hoosiers.”

Americans for Prosperity is leading the grassroots fight for the income tax cut with a full-court press that includes TV, radio and social media ads, email calls-to-action, town halls, and traditional door-to-door and phone call organizing. Thus far, the organization has produced 5,000 emails and 1,000 phone calls to targeted state legislators and nearly 10,000 doors knocked on in key districts.

AFP will help organize a number of taxpayer town halls over the next few days in key areas to encourage the General Assembly to do the right thing and keep working to provide a budget for Hoosiers that is fiscally responsible and provides the tax relief Hoosier families and small businesses deserve.

“We hope those making public policy decisions remember what’s really at stake in the budget debate,” Downham continued. “At the end of the day, it’s the Hoosier taxpayer who stands to gain the most if the General Assembly approves a budget that prioritizes taxpayers instead of government spending.”
