Northeastern Indiana Kennel Club to celebrate AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day

The Northeastern Indiana Kennel Club (NEIKC) will be hosting their 2012 Responsible Dog Ownership Day (RDO Day) on Saturday September 8, 2012 at Shoaff Park, Conklin Pavilion from 10:00AM -3:00 PM. The goal of this event is to bring awareness to the responsibilities involved with being a dog owner. In 2011, the NEIKC hosted one of the top 6 RDO Day events in the country. We want to host one of the top events again in 2012, so we have changed things up and we are excited! It will be a day of fun for the whole family even the dog!

At 11:00 AM and again at 1:00 PM the NEIKC will be presenting a dog show. Also club members and others with AKC recognized breeds will be on hand to discuss their breeds and the pros and cons of their breeds in an informal “Meet the Breeds” setting. This year the Allen County SPCA has partnered with the NEIKC to offer micro chipping for $10.00. Allen County Care and Control will offer their “ID Me” dog tags for free. These will be printed with your dog’s information at this event, but your dog has to be in attendance at RDO Day, to have a tag made. Free doggie bags and goodies will be provided by Pets Supplies Plus and Petco. A free door prize raffle will be held with prizes donated by, Pampered Pet’s Bed and Biscuits, Paw’s n Claw’s Pet Services, Poop Happens, Paw Prints Pet Photography and Green Dog just to name a few. Sweetcakes Comedy Entertainment will again this year provide free face painting and caricature drawings. Breed rescue groups, the Allen County SPCA and Animal Care and Control’s Whisker Wagon will be at this event and will have adoptable dogs; however no dogs may be adopted and taken home from this event. Come and join the fun and watch obedience, agility, and K-9 teams from the city, county and state police. Learn how to give a dog massage, read to a dog from the ACPL Paws to Read program, or just come to see all the different breeds.

We will hold this event rain or shine. Please have your dog on a leash. Please bring a pet food item to be donated to Fort Wayne’s Pet Food Pantry.

Dogs are part of our families and what better way to return the love they give us but by being a responsible dog owner? To learn more about RDO Day 2012 visit www.neikc.org.
