Stutzman: Washington Needs a Dose of Hoosier Work Ethic

(Woodburn, IN) – Today, Congressman Stutzman issued the following release after visiting with businesses across Northeast Indiana.

“I’m always encouraged to see Hoosier innovation, production, and know-how,” said Stutzman. “Businesses from every sector call Northeast Indiana home. Our diversity is a great strength but it’s our work ethic and determination that unite us. In the coming weeks and months, Congress will face some difficult decisions. We need to prevent the administration’s job-killing tax hike on families and small businesses. We need to prioritize savings to make sure that sequestration doesn’t punish our servicemembers and their families for Washington’s failures. We need to work toward pro-growth solutions, not government controls that are out-of-touch with what’s happening here in the real economy. Washington should adopt the same work ethic that Hoosiers show each day.”

Stutzman returns to Congress, following today’s visits to Raytheon in Fort Wayne and BF Goodrich in Woodburn.

This week, the House will consider the Sequestration Transparency Act of 2012, a bill which requires the administration to detail its plans to implement sequestration. Stutzman, a member of the House Budget Committee, has worked with his colleagues to reprioritize mandatory savings, preventing what Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta has called “real damage to our security, our troops and their families, and our military’s ability to protect the nation.”

While Democrats in the White House and Senate continued their calls for tax hikes to families and small businesses, the House will work to prevent job-killing tax hikes during the slowest economic recovery since the Great Depression. A recent study by the Heritage Foundation found that, unless Congress acts, the Third District would face an average increase per tax return of $2,911.

Congressman Stutzman represents the Third Congressional District of Indiana and serves on the House Committee on Agriculture, the House Committee on the Budget and the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity. Indiana’s Third District contains all of DeKalb, Kosciusko, Lagrange, Noble, Steuben, and Whitley counties, as well as parts of Allen and Elkhart counties.
