News release from the City of Fort Wayne:

Open House set for homeowners and first-time homebuyers
Down Payment and Home Repair assistance is available

(July 10, 2012) – The City’s Office of Housing and Neighborhood Development is inviting residents to attend an Open House to learn about Home Repair and Down Payment Assistance programs. The event will be Monday, August 13 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., in the Omni Room on the lower level of Citizens Square, 200 East Berry Street.

Homeowners and residents considering purchasing a home are welcome to attend the Open House to find out about the two programs — as well as general information about homeownership. Several non-profit and community groups will also be on hand to provide information about their agencies’ programs for homeowners and for those in the process of purchasing a home.

The Home Repair program provides a low-interest loan of up to $5,000 for qualified homeowners. The loan can be used for everything from fixing a broken air conditioner to replacing broken windows. The deadline for applications for the Home Repair program is October 31, 2012.

The Down Payment Assistance program provides qualified buyers with a zero percent, deferred, due-on-sale loan up to $9,500. The money can be used for closing costs and down payment assistance.

For more information, call the Office of Housing and Neighborhood Services at 427-8585. Language translation services are available. Both programs are funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
