June 29 Severe Thunderstorm Update: 7:30 AM, 7/4/2012
Here is the latest update from Fort Wayne. in the past 24 hours, crews restored service to another 11,000 customers in the Fort Wayne area.
As of 7 a.m. Wednesday, I&M restored service to more than 99,000 of the customers that lost service as a result of Friday’s storm. Crews are working to restore service to less than 19,000 customers.
In Allen County, crews restored service to 60,000 of the 78,000 customers (77%) who had electric service interrupted because of the storm.
I&M estimates that more than 80% of all customers in Allen County will have electric service restored by late tonight.Work is expected to continue into the weekend to restore service to complete the restoration.
If you use a portable or RV generator, do not plug the generator into your circuit box. Portable generators “backfeed” electricity up the line and risk the lives of repair workers and the public. Follow the manufacturers’ instructions carefully, and plug essential appliances directly into the generator. See additional information about use of backup generators.
Customers living in counties other than Allen County who are still without service since Friday are encouraged to call 800-311-4634 and report their outage again.
Electric consumers who have had power restored are asked to turn on their porch lights so that patrolling service technicians can better spot residences that are still without power in the neighborhood.
Indiana Michigan Power cannot connect power to any home or business where there is damage to the service entrance. The service entrance is the area located 1) at the meter, 2) between the meter and the home’s electrical panel, or 3) the location where Indiana Michigan Power’s cable connects to the home/business owner’s cable. Customers need to have a qualified electrician repair this damage before power can be restored to the home or business.
Customers are asked to report their outage again if they have not called within the past 24 hours. This will ensure that all consumers’ electricity is restored as quickly as possible.
