Accidental Shooting Investigation

Date/Time of Incident: June 23rd, 2012 at 3:48 A.M.

Location of Incident: 4100 South Anthony Blvd

Victim: Fort Wayne Police Officer

Details: On Saturday, June 23rd, 2012 at approximately 3:48 a.m. officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department were dispatched to a residence located in the 4100 block of South Anthony Blvd in reference to a domestic battery investigation involving a suspect possibly armed with a knife.

As Officers arrived on the scene, a pitbull came outside from the residence and charged at the Officers. Two Fort Wayne Police Officers fired shots at the pitbull, striking the dog. As officers were shooting at the dog, it is believed that one of the bullets ricocheted and struck an officer in his leg.

The officer was transported to a local hospital in good condition. The pitbull was treated at the scene.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
